“It’s almost like an allergic reaction a patient has to him or herself…” – Dr. Seth Forman on eczema

Meet Daniela Velasco from Mexico (skip to 1:37)

Daniela Velasco (who is awesome btw) is one of the patients that took a new drug called Dupilumab. She’s suffered from severe eczema that would keep her up at night and was shocked to see her skin clear up in 10 days using Dupilumab. Studies say up to 85% of patients taking the drug experience similar results of clear skin in a matter of days.

So what exactly is Dupilumab?

It requires an injection into the skin, which then helps fight molecules that trigger inflammation. The FDA is calling this a breakthrough therapy which is soon to get approval.

As far as the long term effects of Dupilumab, the jury is still out. My thoughts are, that this drug is only administered for people with unbearable severe eczema. Could this be the answer? Guess time will tell.
